Within an hour you can drive to the City of Bath, the World Hertiage Georgian city, with it’s lovely shopping, pubs and restaurants and sightseeing, and of course the Roman Baths.
Just north of Swindon, you enter the fabulous Cotswolds region, with its many pretty old villages and beautiful waterways.
London is just an hour and a half to the East of Avebury.

For the kids...
Bowood House and Gardens is near Calne, and offers an adventure playground for kids and a good day out for adults. Longleat Safari Park (including Centre Parcs) is less than an hour away, and makes a brilliant day out for families. Littlecote, near Hungerford, is also well worth a visit, especially when the jousting is on in the Summer.
Younger children generally just enjoy running up and rolling down the earthworks of Avebury and chasing the lambs.

Teacher's Cottage has a selection of leaflets about the many other attractions of the area.
