This 22 square km World Heritage Site has no less than 345 archaeological sites, including Avebury Neolithic Henge (with stone circle and West Kennet and Beckhampton Avenues), West Kennet Long Barrow, Windmill Hill, The Sanctuary and Silbury Hill.

Archeologists, astronomers, dowsers, historians and many others have theorized over the significance of the stone circles and the position of them in relation to other important sites. Mostly, people want to know why the circles came into being. As yet, there are no certain answers.
